Bio
A mature-age recruit who forced his way onto the AFL list via perseverance in the state league, Tom Ruggles was drafted by Geelong after winning the club's VFL best and fairest award in 2015. Taken in the rookie draft, the tenacious small defender made an immediate impact with his courageous playing style and ability to quell dangerous small forwards, playing 18 games in his debut season including a preliminary final appearance. However, he found opportunities limited in his second year as the Cats reshuffled their backline, managing just four senior games in 2017. Ruggles was delisted at the end of that season, leaving the top level having proven himself a capable contributor during his brief time in the hoops.
