Bio
Recruited from Williamstown, Tom Sadlier's brief VFL record disguises a nomadic career that spanned multiple states and leagues. He made an immediate impact as a teenager for Fitzroy in 1907, kicking two goals on debut, but spent the following years playing with University and eventually Melbourne for a single senior appearance in 1910. Sadlier found greater individual success after moving to South Australia, where he won a league medal with Booleroo Centre and broke into the North Adelaide senior side just prior to the war. His football ambitions were ultimately curtailed by military service; he was the first North Adelaide player to enlist, serving at Gallipoli and on the Western Front as a Second Lieutenant. While he retired to rural New South Wales rather than returning to the VFL, his family's contribution to the war effort was significant, with his brother Clifford receiving the Victoria Cross.
