Bio
Recruited from the Sandringham Dragons with pick 31 in the 2009 Rookie Draft, Tom Simpkin was a no-nonsense key defender who relied on physical aggression and strict checking rather than rebounding flair. The younger brother of premiership player Jonathan Simpkin, he spent his early years at Seaford developing on the rookie list, finding his path to the senior side blocked by an established backline during the Saints' contending era. When opportunities eventually arose, Simpkin was often tasked with subduing the opposition's strongest key forwards, employing a spoil-first mentality that endeared him to teammates but limited his offensive impact. despite his longevity at the club, he struggled to cement a permanent spot in the best 22 during St Kilda's transition into a rebuild and was eventually delisted at the conclusion of the 2015 season.
