Bio
Originally hailing from Nhill in the Wimmera region, Tom Strownix was a solidly built utility who commenced his VFL career with South Melbourne. He established himself quickly in 1911, utilizing his robust 86kg frame to compete effectively in defence and the ruck, missing only a handful of games in his debut season. He crossed to Fitzroy the following year, joining a club entering a golden era, but found it difficult to cement a permanent place in a star-studded lineup that included the likes of Percy Parratt and Jimmy Freake. Strownix managed 20 games across three seasons for the Maroons—playing a supporting role during their 1913 premiership campaign without making the Grand Final side—and eventually departed the VFL to continue his career with Essendon Association.
