Bio
Recruited from the Gippsland town of Sale, Tom Williams was a journeyman follower who arrived at Essendon via a circuitous football pathway. Prior to donning the sash, he had already established himself in the VFA with Richmond and Leopold, and even spent the 1902 season crossing the Nullarbor to play for West Perth in the West Australian Football Association. He broke into the Essendon lineup for the opening two rounds of the 1903 season, featuring in a loss to Fitzroy and a grit-filled draw against St Kilda, but was unable to maintain his spot in the senior side. Williams departed East Melbourne as quickly as he arrived, eventually returning to the VFA where he found greater success as a premiership ruckman with Richmond.
