Bio
Recruited from the Calder Cannons with pick 58 in the 2007 National Draft, Tony Armstrong arrived at Adelaide as a rebounding defender known for his precise kicking skills and composure in possession. Despite his natural talent and capacity to set up attacks from the half-back line, he struggled to find consistency at AFL level, managing just 14 games in four years before requesting a trade to the Sydney Swans at the end of 2011 to return to his home state. His time in Sydney followed a similar narrative; while his distribution was valued, he remained a fringe player in a premiership-contending squad, eventually being delisted after the 2013 season. Armstrong was handed a career lifeline by Collingwood as a delisted free agent, where he served as a depth player for two seasons, ultimately finishing his career as a journeyman who played 35 games across three clubs without ever fully establishing himself in a regular senior role.
