Bio
Recruited by Essendon with the fourth selection in the 1992 National Draft, Tony Delaney arrived at Windy Hill with significant expectations as a key position prospect but struggled to break into a powerful Bombers lineup, managing just two senior appearances. He transferred to Fremantle as an inaugural squad member in 1995, where he finally secured a regular spot as a key defender, often tasked with manning the opposition's strongest forwards in a developing side. While he possessed the athleticism and frame required for key defensive posts, Delaney battled for consistency throughout his tenure in the west. He was eventually traded to St Kilda prior to the 2000 season as part of the deal that sent Heath Black to the Dockers, but his time at Moorabbin was hampered by injury and form issues, limiting him to 13 games over two seasons before his AFL career concluded.
