Bio
Recruited from Swan Hill, Tony Gilmore was a talented natural midfielder whose VFL career was often spent playing out of position in defence. Arriving at Kardinia Park in 1968, he was frequently deployed as a back pocket specialist to curb opposition small forwards, a role that limited his ability to showcase his offensive ball-winning attributes. After 41 games over six seasons with the Cats, often shuffling between the senior side and the reserves, he transferred to Geelong West in the VFA where he truly flourished. Unleashed in his preferred centreman role, Gilmore became a club legend, winning two best and fairests and playing a pivotal role in the Roosters' famous 1975 premiership victory.
