Bio
Recruited from Subiaco with pick 64 in the 1992 National Draft, Tony Godden was a handy utility who managed 13 games for West Coast, including two finals appearances during the club's mid-90s contention window. However, his place in football history is largely defined by his movement rather than his on-field deeds; he crossed to arch-rivals Fremantle as an uncontracted player ahead of the 1996 season, a transfer that inadvertently gifted the Eagles the compensation pick used to draft club legend David Wirrpanda. Godden’s time in purple was frustrated by a severe groin injury that wiped out his entire 1997 campaign, restricting him to just 11 games for the Dockers before he was delisted at the end of 1998. Despite his brief playing career, he remained a significant figure in WA football, returning to the WAFL to captain Subiaco before forging a long-term administrative career with the Fremantle Football Club, where his decades of service were recognised with Life Membership in 2022.
