Bio
A highly touted recruit from SANFL powerhouse Glenelg, Tony Hall arrived at Hawthorn in 1988 as a ready-made star and delivered immediately. A strong-marking centre half-forward with vice-like hands and a lethal left boot, he slotted perfectly into the Hawks' golden era lineup, earning All-Australian selection and finishing fourth in the Brownlow Medal in his debut season. Hall capped off this dream start by playing a crucial role in Hawthorn's 1988 premiership victory, establishing himself as one of the most dangerous attacking weapons in the competition.
Hall's career trajectory was cruelly altered during a 1989 State of Origin match when he suffered a horrific knee injury after being tackled by his own Hawthorn teammate, Andy Collins. The reconstruction forced him to miss the entire 1990 season, costing him a likely spot in the club's premiership side that year. He returned to play a valuable role in the Hawks' 1991 flag triumph but was often battling his body thereafter. Hall eventually requested a trade home to South Australia to join the Crows for the 1994 season, but persistent injuries restricted him to just 17 games in two years before his retirement.
