Bio
Debuting for Fitzroy shortly after his 18th birthday, Tony Hirst was a pacy utility who rotated between half-forward and half-back. He is best remembered for his contribution to the Lions' famous "Miracle Match" victory over Geelong in 1963, where he kicked a goal as part of the inexperienced lineup that upset the Cats. Known for his elite speed, Hirst spent time on the professional running circuit and even won a mile race for VFL players, but he struggled to cement a permanent position at Brunswick Street, notably wearing a different guernsey number in each of his three seasons there. Unable to break into Fitzroy’s side in 1966, he transferred to Melbourne for a brief two-game stint before his VFL career concluded.
