Stats
Bio
A dual premiership wingman from the SANFL, Tony Symonds arrived at Hawthorn as a mature-age recruit with an impressive pedigree. Selected with the final pick of the 1986 National Draft, he joined the Hawks fresh off back-to-back flags with Glenelg, hoping to translate his class and running ability to the VFL. However, breaking into a Hawthorn midfield that featured stars like John Platten and Michael Tuck proved a monumental task during the club's golden era. Symonds managed just three senior appearances in the 1987 season, booting his solitary goal against the Swans at the SCG, before returning to South Australia. He resumed his decorated career at the Bay, eventually playing over 200 games for the Tigers and serving as their senior coach in the mid-1990s.
