Recruited from Claremont as a zone selection, Trent Carroll was a sturdy key defender who holds the distinction of representing both Western Australian AFL clubs. He began his career with Fremantle, where he battled to cement a permanent spot in the Dockers' backline before being delisted following the 2000 season. Carroll was immediately thrown a lifeline by cross-town rivals West Coast, drafted to provide experienced cover for an injury-hit defence while youngsters like Darren Glass developed. A traditional lockdown full-back, he was a disciplined spoiler who used his 192cm frame to nullify key forwards, though he famously drifted forward to boot two goals in a rare cameo against Port Adelaide. The older brother of Melbourne defender Nathan Carroll, he finished his career as a serviceable depth player who bridged the bitter Derby divide before returning to the WAFL.
