Bio
Recruited from Sandy Bay in Tasmania, Trent Nichols was a crafty rover and forward pocket whose career was defined by his ability to reinvent himself across three different clubs. He initially broke into the Richmond side in 1988, showing glimpses of his goal-kicking talent before being delisted and subsequently drafted by West Coast. After struggling to consistently break into the powerful Eagles lineup of the early 1990s, he found greater utility at North Melbourne, where he played regular senior football and featured in finals campaigns as a crumbing forward, though he ultimately moved on prior to the Roos' premiership success.
In a rare career trajectory, Nichols returned to Punt Road in 1997 via the pre-season draft for a second stint with the Tigers. This proved to be a productive twilight period where he played some of his most consistent football, adding valuable experience and finishing skill to the forward line. He retired in 1998 as a classic football journeyman who, despite lacking the physical stature of his contemporaries, maximized his opportunities to notch over a century of AFL games and maintain a reputable goal-kicking average.
