Bio
Recruited from Sandhurst in the Bendigo league, Trevor McGregor was a blistering wingman whose greatest asset was his elite speed. While he proved to be a valuable contributor for the Lions—most notably finishing third in the 1968 Best and Fairest count—he is best remembered for his exploits on the athletics track rather than the football field. McGregor holds the unique distinction of being the last serving VFL footballer to win the prestigious Stawell Gift, claiming the sash in 1971 after a runner-up finish the previous year. However, his dedication to professional sprinting ultimately curtailed his football career; the Lions grew frustrated with his track commitments interrupting pre-season training, leading him to leave the VFL to pursue running full-time, where he eventually became a world professional sprint champion.
