Bio
A pioneering Queensland recruit from Jindalee, Trevor Spencer arrived at Essendon in the mid-1980s with high expectations after dominating the Australian Schoolboys carnival. A mobile ruckman and key forward, he found it difficult to command a regular spot in Kevin Sheedy's powerhouse lineup, with persistent hamstring injuries limiting him to the fringes of selection during the Bombers' golden era. He was traded to Melbourne in 1990 for a fresh start, but his time as a Demon was marred by misfortune when he suffered a severe knee injury in just his second appearance. Spencer’s career is best remembered for his remarkable 1991 revival; after being delisted by Melbourne, he was thrown a lifeline by Geelong in the mid-season draft and immediately cemented a spot in the senior side. He played a crucial role in the Cats' run to the preliminary final that year, but his body ultimately let him down, with a recurring knee injury in the following pre-season forcing him into premature retirement.
