Bio
Recruited from the Gippsland Power with a speculative late selection (pick 81) in the 1999 National Draft, Troy Makepeace became one of the great bargain recruits for North Melbourne. Arriving at Arden Street immediately following the club's 1999 premiership triumph, the Moyhu native wasted little time establishing himself, debuting early in 2000 and becoming a fixture in the Kangaroos' backline during a transitional era for the club.
Standing at 175cm, Makepeace made his name as a tenacious small defender and tagger who could shut down dangerous forwards while providing drive with his punchy left-foot kicking. He was known for his dash from the back pocket and a surprising ability to drift forward and slot crucial goals, most notably kicking vital majors in comeback wins against Sydney and Port Adelaide. After representing Australia in the 2005 International Rules Series, his opportunities dwindled the following season, and he was delisted at the end of 2006, leaving a legacy as a reliable, hard-working clubman who far exceeded the expectations of his draft position.
