Bio
Arriving at Victoria Park from Cheltenham as a teenage sensation, Vaughan Ellis was initially hyped as Collingwood's answer to St Kilda star Carl Ditterich, even earning the nickname "the blond Beatle" for his distinctive haircut. Despite his athleticism and potential as a tall follower and forward, he found it nearly impossible to break into the starting lineup, spending so much time on the bench that the cheer squad affectionately dubbed him "The Nineteener." Frustrated by this lack of opportunity and denied clearances to Fitzroy and South Fremantle, Ellis controversially crossed to Dandenong in the VFA without a clearance midway through the 1969 season. He went on to enjoy a distinguished career in the Association, including a best and fairest stint at Frankston, leaving many to wonder what he might have achieved in the VFL had he been given a proper run.
