Bio
Recruited from Benalla in the Ovens & Murray Football League, Vern Drake arrived at Fitzroy with a notable pedigree as the younger brother of former Lions star and Collingwood premiership player Ken Drake. The young forward broke into the senior side midway through the 1966 season, wearing the number 41 guernsey for consecutive matches against St Kilda and Hawthorn. However, he was unable to impact the scoreboard or secure a permanent spot in the lineup, departing the VFL without registering a goal. While his time at Brunswick Street was fleeting, Drake eventually returned to regional football where he forged a formidable reputation as a prolific goal-kicking coach in the O&M and Tasmania.
