Teams

Recruited from Woodend in country Victoria, Vern Lamprell arrived at the Western Oval as a tall 188cm prospect capable of holding down a key position. He made his senior debut in the middle of the 1935 season and managed a dozen games across two years for Footscray, notably earning selection in the Victorian Railways representative side during his debut year—a testament to his standing among the many footballers employed by the railways at the time. Despite his height and utility value, Lamprell struggled to cement a permanent spot in the Bulldogs' best 18 and was eventually cleared to the VFA in May 1937. He extended his career in the Association with stints at Brunswick and Northcote, becoming a serviceable state-league player after his brief run at the top level.
