Bio
Originally a Williamstown product, Vern Rowe was a forward whose football aspirations were delayed by his enlistment in the Army during World War I. After returning from service, he joined Melbourne for the 1920 season, finally making his VFL debut in Round 4 and proving to be a handy avenue to goal by booting seven majors in his seven senior appearances. However, his stint at the top level was fleeting, and he departed the Redlegs to continue his career in the VFA with Footscray in 1922. Rowe is often remembered for the tragic circumstances of his premature death; he was killed at just 33 years of age in a farming accident involving a horse-drawn wagon in regional Victoria.
