Stats
Bio
Recruited from Hawthorn in the VFA, Vernon Carkeek was a diminutive forward pocket who stood just 169cm. He broke into the Collingwood senior lineup late in the 1915 season and retained his spot for the opening round of 1916, where he booted his solitary career goal in a victory over Richmond. His time at the top level was effectively ended by World War I, as he enlisted in the AIF shortly after his third and final senior appearance. Carkeek returned to Victoria Park after the armistice to play a significant role in the club's 1919 reserves premiership victory, eventually trading his guernsey for whites to officiate a single VFL match as a boundary umpire in 1922.
