Bio
Recruited from VFA club Coburg, Hazel endured a nomadic start to his league career, struggling to cement a senior spot during short stints with St Kilda and Melbourne. After crossing to Essendon in 1911, he remained a depth player until a timely injury to regular back pocket Allan Belcher opened a door during the finals series. Hazel seized the opportunity, sliding into the defensive unit to claim a premiership medallion in the Bombers' 1911 Grand Final victory over Collingwood. He played just one more VFL game the following season before returning to the VFA with Brighton, where he later found success as a professional boxer.
