Bio
Arriving at the Lake Oval from VFA powerhouse Port Melbourne, Vic "Stretch" Aanensen was a tall and athletic ruckman who made his debut for South Melbourne in 1973. Standing 198cm but entering the league with a slender frame, he relied on agility and a superior leap rather than brute strength to compete at stoppages, often drifting forward to kick goals. He played 40 games over four seasons for the Bloods, but his time in the VFL proved to be a prelude to a legendary career at the lower level. Aanensen opted to return to the Borough in 1977 and subsequently dominated the VFA, winning three premierships and two J.J. Liston Trophies to cement his standing as a member of Port Melbourne’s Team of the Century.
