Family

Arriving from Launceston, Vic Belcher joined South Melbourne in 1907 and rapidly became one of the defining figures of the club's early history. Initially playing alongside his brother Allan, he established himself as a dominant ruckman and follower, celebrated for his immense stamina and ability to impose himself on physical contests. His durability was remarkable for the era, allowing him to anchor the team's midfield for 14 seasons during a golden period for the club.

Belcher holds a singular place in Swans history as the only player to feature in both the 1909 and 1918 premiership victories during the South Melbourne era. He was instrumental in the 1909 breakthrough and, nine years later, captained the side to its dramatic one-point Grand Final win over Collingwood. Having also served as captain-coach in his final years, Belcher retired as the club's games record holder, leaving a legacy of leadership and success that remained unmatched at the club for decades.
