A skilled wingman recruited from West Perth, Vic Fisher arrived at Essendon after serving with the RAAF in World War II, having relocated to Victoria primarily to complete his university studies. He made an instant impact at Windy Hill, winning the club's Best First Year Player award in 1948 and featuring as a reserve in that year's Grand Final series against Melbourne. Fisher was a robust, contest-hardened player who used his solid frame to out-body opponents and was noted for his efficiency, often setting up play with low, drilled passes rather than wasting possession. His brief two-season VFL tenure was remarkably successful, capped off by playing on the wing in the Bombers' runaway 1949 Premiership victory over Carlton. Following the completion of his studies in 1950, Fisher returned to the WAFL, where he went on to win another flag with West Perth.
