Bio
Recruited from the University amateurs, Vic Garra was a solidly built utility who progressed through the Carlton Thirds to become a serviceable depth player in the late 1950s. A member of the Blues' 1954 Under-19s Grand Final side, he used his robust 183cm frame to compete in various key position and defensive roles after breaking into the senior lineup in 1956. Despite showing promise, he struggled to command a permanent spot in the starting XVIII during a strong era for the club, eventually departing Princes Park to play for Port Melbourne in the VFA. In his life after football, Garra established a unique legacy in the automotive industry, enjoying a long career as an engineer with General Motors-Holden where he served as the custodian and curator of the manufacturer's priceless heritage car collection.
