Bio
Recruited from the Footscray District league, Vic Mather was a local product who earned his chance at the Western Oval in the immediate aftermath of World War II. A lightly framed player standing 175cm and weighing just 70kg, he lacked the physical bulk to play a key position, operating instead as a small utility or flanker who relied on movement over contested strength. Mather broke into the senior lineup during the 1945 season, but he struggled to cement a regular place in the side as the club looked to stabilise its list. With Footscray surging up the ladder to become a finals contender in 1946, opportunities for the fringe player became scarce, and he finished his brief VFL tenure with just four games to his name.
