Bio
Recruited from Surrey Hills, Vic McKinnon was a sturdy ruckman and key position forward who established himself in the Hawthorn lineup following his service with the RAAF during World War II. After an initial stint with the reserves in 1946, he returned to local football for three years before finally making his senior debut in 1949, where he quickly became a regular fixture in the side. Standing 183cm, he shouldered the ruck load and provided a target at centre half-forward during a difficult era for the club, playing the majority of his football over a consistent four-year stretch. While his VFL career ended in 1952 before a move to Trafalgar in the Gippsland League, McKinnon remained a dedicated clubman for the rest of his life, serving as a long-term secretary and committee member for the Hawthorn Past Players and Officials Association.
