Bio
Rising through the ranks of the Richmond Fourths, Vic Naismith was a strongly built ruckman and forward whose athletic potential was undeniable. He was a genuine Olympic contender in the javelin for the 1956 Melbourne Games—only missing out due to a shoulder injury sustained working as a baker—though he did feature in the Olympics' Australian Rules exhibition match later that year. On the field, Naismith often played as the secondary ruckman to Brownlow Medallist Roy Wright, using his 188cm frame to impose himself in the forward pocket when resting from the ball-ups. His VFL career came to a sudden and controversial halt after the 1958 season following a physical altercation with club legend and selector Jack Titus at a social function. Forced out of Punt Road, Naismith moved to the VFA and became a star for Oakleigh, winning a Best and Fairest in his first season and playing a key role in their 1960 premiership side.
