Bio
A cornerstone of Footscray's dominance prior to their admission to the VFL, Vic Samson was a tireless follower renowned for his exceptional strength and stamina. Debuting in the VFA in 1912, he became the heartbeat of the "Tricolours," playing in a club-record nine Grand Finals and capturing five premierships during a golden era for the club. Already a 33-year-old veteran by the time Footscray entered the VFL in 1925, Samson's experience was vital for the inaugural side, where he held his own against elite opposition for two seasons before hanging up the boots. His status as a club patriarch was cemented not just by his on-field heroics, but by his service as club secretary immediately following his retirement, eventually seeing him inducted as an inaugural member of the Western Bulldogs Hall of Fame.
