Stats
Bio
Recruited from Castlemaine in the Bendigo Football League, Vin Williams was a reliable winger who became a staple of the Fitzroy side throughout the 1950s. Wearing the number 10 guernsey, he played 93 games for the Lions, providing consistent drive from the flank and featuring in the club’s 1958 finals campaign which ended in a narrow four-point Semi Final loss to North Melbourne. Following the 1959 season, Williams departed the VFL at just 27 years of age to return to country football, famously turning down a coaching offer from Shepparton to instead captain-coach Benalla. The move proved a masterstroke, as he established a significant legacy in the Ovens & Murray League by leading Benalla to back-to-back premierships in 1962 and 1963.
