Vince Driver

Recruited from Darling Juniors in Melbourne's south-eastern suburbs, Vince Driver was an exceptionally light-framed footballer who fought for opportunities during the late 1920s. Standing at just 165cm and weighing a slight 60kg, he was a diminutive wingman or rover who relied on agility to avoid heavy contact in an era of rugged physical play. Driver debuted in 1928 but struggled to cement a regular spot in a competitive Demons lineup that had claimed the premiership just two years prior, managing only sporadic appearances across his tenure. After playing four games in his debut season and five in 1930, he departed the VFL scene with nine senior matches to his name, remembered as a fringe player who briefly bridged the gap between local football and the sport's highest level.
