Bio
Recruited from Wodonga, Wal Alexander arrived at Princes Park in 1945 and found himself immediately immersed in one of the club's most historic campaigns. A defensive-minded player who did not kick a goal in his 20-game career, Alexander made eight senior appearances during his debut year but was unable to force his way into the selected side for the infamous "Bloodbath" Grand Final victory against South Melbourne. He remained on the fringe of the Blues' lineup for two more seasons, adding just five games to his tally before crossing to Fitzroy in 1948 in search of greater opportunity. Alexander managed seven games in his solitary season with the Maroons before departing the VFL scene, remembered primarily as a depth player during Carlton's successful post-war era.
