Bio
A talented dual sportsman born in the suburb of Fitzroy, Wal Dudley made a brief but efficient cameo for the Gorillas during the early stages of the Second World War. Standing 183cm, he was recruited as a forward and made an immediate impression on debut in Round 4, 1940, booting two goals against South Melbourne before adding another pair against Hawthorn two weeks later. Despite this promising start, his VFL career was limited to just three senior appearances, as his sporting prowess was more fully realised on the cricket pitch. Dudley went on to play first-class cricket for Victoria as a right-arm fast bowler, where he secured a unique place in history by dismissing Don Bradman for a duck, eventually becoming a club legend with Northcote in district cricket where he took over 500 wickets.
