Teams

Recruited from the rural district of Bulla, Wal Grant joined Carlton at the dawn of the club’s golden era under legendary coach Jack Worrall. A defender, Grant made his senior debut in the opening round of the 1906 season, featuring in a solid victory over Melbourne at Princes Park. Despite this promising start, he found it difficult to secure a permanent spot in a powerful lineup that was marching toward the club's first-ever premiership, managing only one further appearance in Round 9 against St Kilda. With opportunities limited by the strength of the Blues' defensive stocks, Grant eventually transferred to the VFA, where he carved out a substantial career playing over 80 games combined for the Essendon Association and Williamstown.
