Bio
Walter "Wal" Romari was a mature-age recruit plucked from Kilsyth in Melbourne's outer east, joining Hawthorn as a 26-year-old for the 1934 season. He made his debut in the opening round against Carlton, brought in as the struggling Mayblooms experimented with their list to find competitive talent. Romari retained his place for a second match against North Melbourne the following week, but after two consecutive losses, he was omitted from the senior side. His VFL career concluded after that brief fortnight of football, typifying the transient nature of team selection for the Hawks during their difficult formative decades in the league.
