Bio
The son of prominent stage actors George Chalmers and Katie Towers, Wally Chalmers found his own stage on the wing after crossing over from Carlton District. He made an immediate impact for the 'Same Olds', establishing himself as a smart and gritty operator who was widely considered the premier wingman in the competition during his debut season. Chalmers was a pivotal figure in Essendon’s golden era, playing in the back-to-back premiership sides of 1911 and 1912. His career momentum was eventually halted when the club voluntarily withdrew from the league during the peak of the First World War; although he returned for a brief cameo in 1918, his legacy remains defined by his instrumental role in securing two flags in his first two years.
