Bio
Recruited from the Teachers Training College, Wally Don was a blonde-haired half-back flanker who holds the unique distinction of being the only player in VFL history to represent both Carlton and the University Football Club. After managing just a solitary senior appearance for the Blues in late 1913, the Shepparton native transferred to the Students for their final season in the league, where he became a regular fixture in defence. His football career was abruptly cut short by the outbreak of the Great War, during which he served with the 6th Battalion at Gallipoli and sustained severe injuries from an artillery shell. Although he eventually recovered and returned to Australia to resume his teaching profession, the dissolution of the University club and the toll of his wartime service ensured he never played at the top level again.
