Bio
Hailing from Heywood in western Victoria, Wally Lovett was a skillful rover and small forward who became a pawn in the fierce recruiting rivalry between Collingwood and Richmond during the early 1980s. A member of the prominent Indigenous Lovett family, he arrived at Victoria Park with a reputation for speed and flair, showing glimpses of his potential during a promising debut season. However, his time in black and white was cut short when he was traded to Richmond alongside Neil Peart as part of the controversial deal that sent Tigers captain Geoff Raines to the Magpies. Lovett played 13 games at Punt Road over two seasons but struggled to command a regular senior position, eventually leaving the VFL having played a modest but notable role for Indigenous footballers of his era.
