Bio
A talented recruit from the country town of Donald, Wally Shearer was a classy rover and centreman who made an immediate impact for Footscray during the World War II era. He displayed a natural eye for the goals, booting 18 majors across his 20 senior appearances, but his VFL career was cut short after the 1942 season. Shearer eventually returned to the bush where he cemented his legacy as a genuine star of country football, serving as captain-coach of Donald and dominating the North Central Football League. His standing in the region was confirmed when he won the Feeney Medal as the league's best and fairest player twice, in 1948 and 1951.
