Stats
Bio
Recruited from Balwyn in Melbourne's eastern suburbs, Wally Spencer arrived at Hawthorn in 1946 as the competition adjusted to the post-war era. Standing 185cm, a height considered tall for the time, Spencer was utilized as a key defender who could match up against the opposition's larger forwards. He broke into the senior side in Round 5 and became a fixture in the lineup, notching 13 games for a Hawks outfit that found wins difficult to come by. Despite establishing himself quickly in the defensive half, his tenure at VFL level was brief, and he concluded his career at the end of that single season without registering a goal.
