Bio
Recruited from Brunswick, Wally "Pug" Warden holds an infamous place in Footscray history not for his on-field feats, but for receiving the severest suspension ever handed to a Bulldogs player. A solid 184cm utility who made his debut in the 1928 season, Warden’s VFL career was derailed almost immediately when he was found guilty of kicking an opponent during a fiery clash against Essendon in Round 8. The tribunal handed down a staggering 22-match ban, wiping out the remainder of his debut season and the entirety of 1929. Although he returned to the Tricolours’ lineup in 1930 to add a final handful of games to his tally, he never truly recovered his momentum at the elite level and eventually departed to captain-coach Kingsville in the local district league.
