Bio
Recruited from local club Breakwater, Walter Cooke joined Geelong during the VFL's nascent second season in 1898. The 21-year-old forward broke into the senior side midway through the year and established himself as a regular during the club's critical late-season run. Cooke notably retained his spot for the "sectional" round-robin series—the finals system of the era—where he featured in high-pressure matches against eventual finalists Melbourne and Collingwood. He booted his solitary career goal during his nine-game tenure but, despite finishing the year in Geelong's best 20, he did not continue his VFL career beyond that single season.
