Bio
Recruited from the coastal town of Lorne, Warwick Yates was a towering ruckman who arrived at Geelong with significant physical promise. Standing 193cm, he made his VFL debut in 1971 and was primarily used as a tap ruckman and defensive support, though he failed to register a goal during his three-season stint at Kardinia Park. Unable to cement a permanent spot in the senior side, Yates departed the VFL after 21 games to join Geelong West in the VFA, where he eventually carved out a legendary career. He became a stalwart for the Roosters, playing over 200 games and featuring in their 1975 premiership side, though he is perhaps best remembered for a famous mishap where he broke his leg chopping firewood, forcing him to miss the club's 1979 Grand Final appearance.
