Teams

Recruited from Southport with pick 25 in the 2005 National Draft, Wayde Mills was a tall key position prospect initially touted as a potential successor to retiring champion Justin Leppitsch. Standing 195cm, he debuted in early 2006 and was primarily used as a key defender, though he briefly found a niche as a defensive forward in 2007 to utilise his strong overhead marking. Despite his size and defensive application, questions over his kicking and disposal efficiency hindered his ability to lock down a regular spot in the senior side. He was delisted at the end of 2008 after 16 games but subsequently carved out a distinguished state-league career, earning Team of the Year honours with Glenelg in the SANFL and later winning the Grogan Medal as the QAFL's best and fairest player.
