Recruited from West Perth with a late selection in the 2000 National Draft, Wayde Skipper spent nine seasons at the Western Bulldogs but often found himself on the fringe of the senior side. Used primarily as an undersized ruckman and mobile key position utility, he possessed good athleticism but struggled to surpass established talls like Luke Darcy and Will Minson in the pecking order. After being delisted following the 2009 season, he was handed an AFL lifeline by Hawthorn in the rookie draft to provide experienced cover for their depleted ruck division. Skipper played 15 games for the Hawks in 2010—statistically his most consistent campaign—before being delisted again, concluding his career as a resilient journeyman who provided valuable depth.
