Bio
Recruited from Thornton-Eildon in country Victoria, Wayne Bevan was a tall forward best known for his accuracy and a booming long-range torpedo punt. He burst onto the scene in 1973, becoming the youngest Hawthorn player to kick 30 goals in a debut season, showing immense promise as a future key position staple. However, his momentum at Glenferrie Oval stalled due to a combination of "second-year blues," experimental shifts to the backline, and a severe bout of glandular fever that ruined his 1975 campaign. His VFL career ended prematurely when a job transfer with the ANZ Bank took him to South Australia, where he played a season with Central District in the SANFL before returning to local football.
