Bio
Recruited from Golden Square with pick 29 in the 1989 National Draft, Wayne Campbell established himself as a cornerstone of the Richmond midfield throughout the 1990s and early 2000s. While initially deployed on the wing or half-forward flank, he developed into a prolific on-baller renowned for his high work rate and ability to accumulate possessions. Although occasionally scrutinised early in his career regarding the damaging nature of his disposal, Campbell matured into a highly consistent and respected figure, winning four Jack Dyer Medals as the club's best and fairest player and earning All-Australian honours twice.
Campbell served as Richmond captain from 2001 to 2004, guiding the team during a mixed era of on-field performance before relinquishing the role to Kane Johnson in his final season. Known for his professionalism and durability, he retired in 2005 having played 297 games, falling agonisingly close to the 300-game milestone. His contribution to the Tigers was further recognised with induction into the Richmond Hall of Fame, solidifying his status as a premier clubman who later transitioned into significant football administration roles across the league.
