Stats
Bio
Recruited from Dandenong High School, Wayne Ewin was a diminutive footballer who managed 17 senior games for South Melbourne during a lean era for the club in the early 1970s. Standing just 175cm and weighing 67kg, he was exceptionally light for VFL standards and relied on his agility and evasion to compete against bigger bodies. He broke into the side as a teenager in 1972, playing 13 games over his first two seasons, but struggled to command a regular spot in the starting 18 and spent the entire 1974 season out of the senior team. After a brief recall for four games in 1975, he departed the VFL to return to local sport in Melbourne's south-east. Ewin ultimately left a significant legacy in the region as a cricketer rather than a footballer, becoming a star all-rounder in the Dandenong District Cricket Association and winning the prestigious Alan Wookey Medal with Hallam Kalora Park in the 1980s.
